Birch Road, Bristol
We carried out a whole-house retrofit and renovation of a traditional terraced property on Birch Road in Southville, Bristol. Works included a structural knock-through to create an open-plan kitchen and diner, full window replacement, floor insulation, external and internal wall insulation, airtightness upgrades throughout and the installation of an air source heat pump.
As with many older Bristol homes, the project required careful detailing around party walls, restricted access, uneven existing masonry and hidden issues within the original building fabric. The finished result is a warmer, brighter and more efficient home with a modern open-plan living space.
Brook Lane, Bristol
We have delivered a two-storey timber-frame new build on Brook Lane in Stapleton, Bristol, creating a generous kitchen/diner linked directly from the existing sitting room. Upstairs, the new structure provides an additional bedroom with en suite, connected through to the existing first-floor bedrooms to better suit a young family.
Externally, the building combines natural stone cladding at ground level with larch cladding to the upper storey, giving it a warm, contemporary finish that sits comfortably alongside the original home. Key challenges included carefully managing the junctions between new and existing structures, coordinating the timber frame, glazing, roof details and cladding, and achieving a high-quality finish throughout.
Wellow, Bath
We have built a contemporary timber-frame extension to a traditional stone property in Wellow, designed to make the most of the surrounding countryside views. The space features an exposed Douglas fir frame throughout, extensive IQ Glass glazing and rooflights, creating a bright, open living area that brings the outside in.
The extension is complete with a log burner and bespoke lowered cantilevered bench seating, adding warmth, character and a carefully considered social space. Key challenges included tying the new timber structure into the existing stone building, coordinating the large glazing elements and roof details, and maintaining a clean, high-quality exposed timber finish throughout.
Limerick Road, Bristol
We are demolishing an existing rear extension at this Bristol period property and replacing it with a new exposed Douglas fir extension, complete with a zinc roof, new skylights, sliding doors and windows. A structural knock-through has opened up the existing kitchen into the new extension, creating a much brighter and more connected living space.
The renovation will also include a high-spec new kitchen, angled steps leading down to a utility and WC, and a main living area that flows out towards the garden. Externally, the project will be finished with a new patio, stone-clad retaining wall and fresh landscaping. Key challenges include working with the existing stone and brick structure, managing temporary support during the knock-through, and carefully tying the new timber and zinc details into the original property.
We renovated this Bristol period property with a structural knock-through to create an open-plan kitchen and dining space connected to the rear extension. The works included a new kitchen, new downstairs bathroom, renovated upstairs bathroom, external wall insulation, new skylight, sliding doors, external sink and an exposed Douglas fir roof structure.
The project required careful temporary support, new steels and close coordination around the existing building fabric. The finished result is a warmer, brighter and more practical home, with improved energy performance, a stronger connection to the garden and warm exposed timber detailing.
